Preventing the emission of several hundred million tonnes of CO₂ in global steel production every year – this is the goal which researchers at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) and their industrial partner SMS group want to accelerate by means of a new process. This process is based on modernising existing blast furnace technology with moderate investments and has already been successfully demonstrated in a pilot plant.

Of all media, photography is the easiest to change its scope. It traditionally creates miniatures of the world, but can also show things life-size and larger than life and make the invisible visible. The exhibition explores the theme of photographic proportions through a series of contrasts, including historical and contemporary attempts to control proportions in the image and deliberate games of confusion. Size in photography has many consequences. It is precisely through its dimensional mobility, as the exhibition shows, that the medium achieves power in cultural, social and political contexts.

The exhibition will take place at Kunstpalast from February 1 to 20 May 2024.
