With the introduction of new casting formats and quality grades for special steels (SBQ), the company aims to help meet growing demand from the construction industry on the Arabian Peninsula. The modernization will enable the production of new profile formats.
Jindal Shadeed Iron & Steel, a manufacturer of reinforcing steel grades, is modernising the eight-strand concast billet casting plant at its plant in the port of Sohar, Sultanate of Oman, to meet increasing demand from customers in the construction industry. This modernisation strengthens the long-standing partnership between Jindal Shadeed and SMS. By leveraging SMS's expertise, Jindal Shadeed will be able to expand its production capacity, broaden its product portfolio and meet the growing demand for SBQ products in the global market, SMS said. The main objective of the modernisation is to enable Jindal Shadeed to produce new profile formats (180 SQ and 200 SQ) for the construction industry. The upgraded Concast billet caster is scheduled to go into operation by the end of 2025. The scope of supply includes mechanical components for profile production and automation systems. According to SMS, these proven technological solutions provide Jindal Shadeed with the necessary process know-how and technical expertise to meet the stringent market requirements for quality and dimensional accuracy. The electromagnetic mould stirring system (CONSTIR) improves the homogeneity of the molten steel during solidification. This reduces defects, resulting in less scrap and higher output. The plug control system (CONFLOW) enables precise control of the steel flow in the mould, ensuring constant casting speeds and reducing variations in billet dimensions. This increases operational reliability and minimises downtime. The automation package includes advanced systems that enable real-time monitoring and control, reduce human error and ensure consistent product quality. Source: SMS group
