Stainless steelmaker Outokumpu Stainless USA has signed a five-year cost-based per-ton maintenance contract with Primetals. The company will be responsible for the repair and maintenance of Outokumpu's single-strand continuous caster in Calvert, Alabama.
Maintenance operations will be moved to a nearby square-foot facility in Calvert operated by Primetals. The move would streamline maintenance operations and free up additional space in Outokumpu's melting plant for other production activities. There will be no interruption to Outokumpu's production in Calvert or to continuous caster operations throughout the transition. The contract covers a wide range of continuous caster maintenance services to ensure optimal performance and longevity of the equipment. A further advantage, according to Primetals, is that its customers can access remote support via the advanced operations management platform. In addition, an e-services platform enables operators to order spare parts online, access helpful training and centralise plant documentation. Furthermore, a Maintenance and Asset Technology (MAT) platform offers a range of tools for real-time tracking of copper and roll fleets, according to Primetals. The MAT predictive maintenance planning developed by Primetals uses reliability-centred maintenance strategies to eliminate failure modes and optimise equipment life. MAT also includes graphical order tracking, forecasts to increase overall productivity and a KPI dashboard for informative reports. MAT is designed for mobility and can be operated on tablets, ensuring accessibility on site and offline. Source: Primetals
