Sail to build high-speed bar mill

Indian steelmaker Sail has awarded a turnkey contract to Danieli for the design and construction of a 1 million tonne-per-year capacity bar mill and a new reheating furnace.

Sail has contracted Danieli for design and construction of a modern, efficient bar mill along with a new reheating furnace on a turnkey basis. The new bar mill will be located in Durgapur, India, and will feature advanced production capabilities, including high-speed delivery system and QTB quenching facilities. According to Danieli, the selected technologies are designed to minmize operating costs, ensuring a highly efficient and profitable operation.
The Danieli Centro Combustion walking-beam reheating furnace will deliver hot billets to the mill at 220 tph capacity. Equipped with patented MAB burners and latest PHL firing logic to ensure the best heating quality and high efficiency while minimizing scale formation and pollutant emissions. Run by Danieli Automation process control and systems, the mill will be ready to operate according to Industry 4.0 concepts. Commissioning of the bar mill is expected to be completed by the second quarter of 2027.
