A new PCF calculation tool by the companies of the Salzgitter Mannesmann Handel GmbH offers complete transparency regarding their steel products’ carbon footprint. Following successful validation by TÜV SÜD, the CO2 calculation tool is now available with the TÜV SÜD seal of approval.
Customers and business partners are calling for transparency regarding the carbon footprint of individual products, the so-called product carbon footprint (PCF). The new PCF software solution, cooperatively developed by Salzgitter Mannesmann Handel GmbH, calculates the carbon footprint of a steel product from raw material extraction to the customer's factory gate (cradle to gate), as explained by Tanja Jacobs, head of Business Development Salzgitter Mannesmann Handel, in an interview with Messe Düsseldorf. With the PCF, companies that need emissions data for their own carbon footprint receive an exact, certified analysis for their products. Salzgitter Mannesmann Handel GmbH with its companies Salzgitter Mannesmann Stahlhandel, Salzgitter Mannesmann International and Universal Eisen und Stahl, as well as its sister company Salzgitter Mannesmann Stahlservice, sees itself as a leading system partner and full-range provider offering a comprehensive portfolio of high-quality rolled steel products and tube products in all dimensions and grades. The products, unfinished or industrially pre-manufactured, come in part from the Group's own production. With the new service of verified PCF calculation, customers can calculate their individual carbon product footprint for each product offered and have it issued as a declaration.
