As part of his plan to end the “Green New Deal”, on his first day in office, the new US President Donald Trump signed a document immediately halting the disbursement of funds provided under the Inflation Reduction Act and the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law under the Biden administration.
US President Donald Trump has signed a document instructing all government agencies to immediately stop “disbursing funds” from the two laws that created subsidies for the clean hydrogen industry, as reported by the US industry service Hydrogen Insight. This means that for the time being, no further funds can be disbursed to the seven regional hydrogen hubs that were awarded billions of dollars in funding by the Biden administration under the 2021 Infrastructure Investment and Employment Act (commonly known as the bipartisan infrastructure bill), all of which have now received tens of millions of dollars in initial funding. And although it technically prevents any funds from being disbursed for clean hydrogen projects under the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 (Inflation Reduction Act) – including the production tax credits for clean hydrogen or the carbon capture and storage tax credit – were not imminent, as they are paid only when clean hydrogen is produced or CO2 is captured.
