Founded in 2025, VinMetal is planning an integrated steelworks complex in Vung Ang, Ha Tinh, Vietnam, with an initial capacity of approximately 5 million tonnes per year. The company has signed a memorandum of understanding with Primetals regarding the greenfield project, which will include production facilities for long and flat products.
VinMetal, the steel manufacturing arm of Vingroup, one of Vietnam’s largest listed companies, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for a strategic partnership with Primetals Technologies in Hanoi on May 7, 2026. The agreement focuses on the creation of a large integrated steel complex in Ha Tinh, Vietnam. This facility will produce both long and flat steel products through two production lines.
One production line will consist of a meltshop employing an LD converter (BOF), a ladle furnace and vacuum treatment, a billet caster, a wire rod mill, and a high-capacity, high-speed rebar mill. The other line will include a second meltshop consisting of an LD converter, a ladle furnace and vacuum treatment, a slab caster, and a hot-strip mill for flat steel production.
“We aim to build a large-scale, modern, and digitalized steel complex that meets the highest international standards, enhancing the competitiveness and position of Vietnam’s steel industry on the global industrial map,” stated Mr. Pham Nhat Quan Anh, General Director of VinMetal.
