Southern Peru Copper modernises copper refinery

Southern Peru Copper Corporation, a subsidiary of Grupo Mexico, the largest mining group in Mexico and the third largest copper producer in the world, has placed an order with Metso to modernise its copper refinery.

The order, worth a good 10 million euros, comprises cathode stripping machines for the Ilo electric refinery and the Toquepala electrolysis plant. The machines are based on a proven design that guarantees a high level of safety and long-term reliability. Both machines use advanced robotic electrode handling to optimise the layout and efficiency of material handling in the existing processes.
The Finnish company Metso is a leading supplier in the field of hydrometallurgy with electrolyte technology for copper refineries. The product range includes key equipment based on proprietary technology as well as basic engineering, digital solutions and services.
