MIKRON Thermal Imaging Camera MCS640

Compact, short wavelength thermal imaging process camera for non-contact temperature measurement of metallic surfaces, graphite, or ceramics

The MIKRON MCS640 from LumaSense Technologies, an Advanced Energy company, is a short wavelength infrared (SWIR) thermal imager with internal digital signal processing.

This camera is designed to accurately measure temperatures between 600 and 3000°C, suitable for applications such as measurements on metallic surfaces, graphite and ceramics, etc.
The compact design of the MCS640 enables the integration of the camera into compact production machines, while the solid and robust housing guarantees reliability even in harshest industrial environments.
LumaSense offers a wide variety of compatible optics for the MCS640, allowing each instrument to be configured exactly to the measurement needs of the desired scene. Microscopic lenses are also available, allowing accurate measurement of small objects, such as filament temperatures.
The 640 x 460 resolution pixel detector enables to display 307,200 measurement points with superior measurement accuracy of 0,5% of reading and is designed to allow precise targeting of small objects in a wider field of view. Images in real-time at 60 Hz (60 images per second) for dynamic temperature processes can be displayed.

The built-in Gigabit Ethernet interface (GigE) allows the camera to be connected to the network for long data transmission or to LumaSense’s application software for further analysis

The MCS640 thermal imager can be used in many metal applications including: preheating, annealing tempering, welding, forging, hardening, sintering, melting, soldering, brazing, and rolling.

Special LINE OPTICS as an Option for Series 6 Advanced Pyrometers

Expanded functionality for IMPAC ISR 6 and IGAR 6 for wire production and pouring stream measurements

To minimalize the measurement errors from external influences metal temperatures should be measured with the shortest available wavelength. In very harsh environments two color pyrometers are the best choice. Measuring larger parts of objects with different temperatures is also important for checking temperature uniformity.

The ISR 6 and IGAR 6 Advanced by LumaSense are digital 2-color, high-class pyrometers for a wide range of infrared measurement applications. Besides the standard optical heads these pyrometers are optionally available with integrated line optics.
These optics provide a wider spot in shape of a line and deliver user benefits especially during wire production processes or pouring stream measurements.

The line shaped spot guarantees that vibrating or oscillating wires or a moving pouring stream do not transfer out of the pyrometer’s spot. Thereby the wires respectively the pouring stream need to be aligned diagonally to the line shaped spot. In combination with the short response time of only 2 ms even very fast processes can be measured reliably. The optics can be manually adjusted at all distances between 210 mm and 5000 mm.

For wire production the orientation of the line spot is vertical for MB 14 (wire move horizontally). The temperature range of this version is 600…1400°C.

In terms of measuring pouring streams the orientation of the line spot is horizontal for MB 25 (as the pouring stream runs vertical), typical measured temperatures with line optics are from 800 °C…2500°C.
